Warburton Hospital planning permit could turn it into a hotel

The Yarra Ranges Council has received a planning permit application for the Warburton Hospital Site on 25 July.

The proposed plans could see the 113-year-old building redeveloped into a residential hotel, spa facility (health retreat), shops and a restaurant.

The estimated cost of works sits at $31.25 million.

The applicant is the Villa Spa Pty Ltd Atf Warburton Valley Unit Trust.

“Villa Spa Pty Ltd atf Warburton Valley Unit Trust recognises the significance of the former Warburton Hospital and Health Resort and is committed to restoring the site to its former prominence while meeting contemporary design standards. The development will deliver significant community benefits through economic growth, support for local businesses, and renewed local vitality,” the application’s cover letter read.

The application is currently in progress.
