Child airlifted after tree falls on car in Yarra Junction

A woman and child have been taken to hospital after a tree fell on their car in Yarra Junction this morning.

A 55-year old Millgrove woman and a 10-year old child were travelling from Yarra Junction to Launching Place when a tree came down directly on top of their vehicle at 8.25am.

Sergeant Luke Schroder said the 10-year old child was trapped in the car and subsequently airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver was taken to Maroondah Hospital via road ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

Sergeant Luke Schroder said a local excavation company stopped to assist emergency services in removing the tree from the vehicle.

The Warburton Highway is currently closed at Launching Place.

More to come.
