Daniel Sanders has stormed back into Dakar contention with a strong fourth-placed finish in Stage Five.

Fellow Australian Toby Price also came in third in what was a positive day for the pair; Price is now seventh in the overall rankings and Sanders is in eighth.

Botswanan Ross Branch reclaimed his overall lead ahead of the new 48-hour Chrono stage, while Argentine Luciano Benevides, the younger brother of 2021 Dakar winner and 2024 current competitor Kevin Benavides, suffered from a sputtering engine which repeatedly cut out on him and caused him to drop down the standings.

Sanders is now 37 minutes and 44 seconds behind race leader Branch.
