Fatal police shooting in Yarra Junction



Police have shot and killed a man in Yarra Junction at around 5.30pm, 30 July.

Police attended an address on Warburton Highway after reports were made of a man assaulting a woman.

The altercation resulted in a police officer discharging their firearm and killing the man.

Ambulance crews were called to the scene but the man could not be revived.

The woman was taken by air ambulance to hospital and is being treated for serious injuries. The parties are believed to be known to each other.

Homicide Squad detectives will now investigate the matter with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as is standard procedure for a fatal police shooting.

The State Coroner, Judge John Cain, is also attending the scene.
