Where are my rates going? Yarra Ranges Council minor works update June 2025

When we, hard working residents of the Yarra Ranges, pay our rates to the council, we sometimes might think: ‘Where exactly does my money go?’

The majority of the works the council completes are minor works, so it’s easy to overlook them, whereas the bigger, more expensive projects get a lot of attention.

Last month, a number of minor works were completed by the Yarra Ranges Council – here’s a quick rundown:

In the Upper Yarra:

Works have been completed on Wandin North’s public toilets.

Along the Warburton Highway, from Public Hall to Paynes Road, a concrete footpath has been constructed.

A bunch of things have been updated at the Seville Waterplay Playspace: it’s had its Play Matta Tiles renewed, its equipment oiled and some new timbers installed.

Graffiti was removed from signage from Brisbane Bridge to Ottrey Carpark In Warburton.

Some new solar lighting has been installed on the McMahons Creek pedestrian bridge, increasing visibility at night.

Yarra Junction Library has had an upgrade with its interior getting a recoat of paint, the kitchenette being replaced and LED lighting being updated too.

At the Woori Yallock Oval some edge stabilisation works have taken place.

At 7 Park Road, Warburton, the construction of a concrete footpath connection and DDA compliant crossing took place.
