Parks Victoria took to Facebook to remind day-trippers to be prepared when driving to Mount Donna Buang.
After just under 20 centimetres of snow fell on Mount Donna Buang this week, many are visiting due to its proximity to Melbourne and lack of an entry fee.
But it’s important to prepare properly when visiting Mount Donna Buang.
“Check the weather before you head out. Mountain weather changes fast, so always check the latest updates on road and snow conditions before setting out. The summit is only accessible when conditions are safe, and roads may close at any time,” the Parks Victoria Facebook post read.
“Time your departure to allow for road crews to grit and clear the roads. It’s really important you have snow chains ready just to be safe on the roads.”
“Consider carpooling, or plan to visit mid-week if you can. Overcrowding at this location causes car park jams and unsafe pedestrian access. Expect long queues on congested roads and pay attention to local traffic advice.”
It also recommended people pack extra warm layers, spare dry clothing, food and water and a full tank of petrol.
