Members of the public have been advised via police social media pages that there will be an alteration to the speed limits on Melba Highway, between Maroondah Highway and Yarra Glen, while roadworks and an investigation are conducted.
The area outside Chateau Yering is known as a spot for frequent traffic accidents.
Speed limits will be reduced to 60 kilometres per hour, in part, near the Chateau Yering bend and will be dropped to 40 kilometres per hour when works are being conducted.
Lilydale SES unit controller Shaun Caulfield said late last year after a slew of crashes attended by the SES, that the majority of the crashes that occur on the corner are in result of vehicles heading from Yarra Glen towards Lilydale that end up going wide.
“Generally, without speaking about those specific accidents, the main cause there is people just going too fast into that corner,” he said.
Police have asked for patience from the public during this time.
