The Fire Danger Period for Yarra Ranges will end tomorrow, 1 May.

After just over four months of Fire Danger Period restrictions, Yarra Ranges residents can now light a fire in open air without having to obtain a permit or adhere to certain requirements.

If you are going to burn off, please make sure you register your burn-off on the Fire Permits Victoria website – it’s simple, free and avoids unnecessary emergency service callouts.

To register your upcoming burn-off, visit firepermits.vic.gov.au.

If your burn-off is taking place within two hours you must register by calling 1800 668 511.

As the earth gets wetter with the onset of autumn, the risk of fire lowers and there’s less need for strict regulations on starting fires.

The Fire Danger Period may be declared as early as October in some municipalities, and typically remains in place until the fire danger lessens, which could be as late as May.
