Eastern Division 2 (Knox/Yarra Ranges) Highway Patrol, with support from the State Highway Patrol Solo Unit, have been conducting Operation Rolling Thunder, focusing on motorcycle riders entering into the Yarra Ranges area.

With 12 serious injury collisions and four fatal collisions involving motorcyclists in our area since the start of 2025, the operation has a focus on rider education, with all intercepted riders provided contemporary TAC educational material.

Utilising road blocks, police have been conducting drug and alcohol testing, checking licences, registration and that riders with a restricted licence are riding motorcycles and scooters that comply with the Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme (LAMS).

Mobile patrols are monitoring rider behaviour and speed compliance with the area of Operation.

The operation will continue to run over the coming months and police are reminding riders to ride safely and to conditions, and to wear appropriate protective gear.
