Do you find yourself wondering what your rates are funding in the Upper Yarra?
When we, hard working residents of the Yarra Ranges, pay our rates to the council, we sometimes might think: ‘Where exactly does my money go?’
The works council completes often are minor works, so it’s easy to overlook them, whereas the bigger, more expensive projects get a lot of attention.
But these large scale projects aren’t the only things we pay for (obvious to many), and in fact they’re often funded by government grants anyway (not so obvious to many).
So, here’s a quick overview of the smaller things being done by the Yarra Ranges Council in the Upper Yarra.
In the Seville Centenary Gardens, council workers have topped up the mulch in several garden beds.
Also in Seville, the Valley Road has been weeded and topped up with mulch.
While people drive along Warburton Highway in Seville, they might notice the construction of a flood wall into easement, which has redefined the swale drain within the reserve.
Meanwhile in Wesburn, the Wesburn Station on the Warburton Rail Trail has received a much needed mulch top up around the memorial trees.
Autumn is being ushered in with seasonal changeovers on the sports ovals, where new cricket pitch and goal post covers are being installed.
The Yarra Junction Hub’s gardens have been renewed with some new plants
Drainage flow at Felix Reserve in Woori Yallock has been redirected.
And finally, yet another mulch top up took place at the Warburton Waterwheel’s garden beds.
