Busy weekend for Hillcrest CFA

Over the weekend, Hillcrest CFA was paged to three separate incidents.

On Saturday afternoon at approximately 4,40PM, Hillcrest crews were paged to a structure fire caused by an electric stove. Fortunately, the fire was isolated to the kitchen and part of the roof which was able to be extinguished. Yellingbo Rural Fire Brigade and Seville Rural Fire Brigade (CFA) supported the brigade at this incident.

Shortly after Hillcrest members had settled back in at home after restowing the pumper, their pagers chimed again just before 8pm.

This time it was due to a tree down over the road and powerlines which were smouldering.

Hillcrest CFA were accompanied by Yarra Junction Fire Brigade (CFA) who assisted them in assuring the road stayed clear of cars and bystanders while they awaited the power company to isolate the power. Once safe, Hillcrest CFA were able to clear the road thanks to their chainsaw operators on scene.

At approximately 5.40am on Sunday morning, Hillcrest CFA were paged to a tree fire behind the Home Hotel in Launching Place, and were supported once again by their friends at Yarra Junction CFA who helped get the scene under control.

A big thank you to the dedicated members and neighboring brigades for their swift responses and teamwork over a busy weekend. These incidents highlight the importance of community collaboration and preparedness.
