Ronald Reagan
In 1981, then U.S President Ronald Reagan – only a few months into his first term – was shot by John Hinkley Jr in Washington D.C. Hinkley fired a flurry of bullets many missing in the chaos and many striking administration staff. It was one of the last bullets fired as Reagan was being rushed away which hit the President and lodged itself in his lung. Reagan survived.
Theodore Roosevelt
In 1912, former President Theodore Roosevelt was shot in the chest by Josh Schrank while on his way to give a speech in Milwaukee. It passed through his glasses case and a copy of his speech, lodging in his chest muscle. The crowd restrained Schrank and Roosevelt demanded he be left unharmed sensing violent retaliation. The president assessed his condition as non-critical and promptly delivered a 90 minute speech with a bullet in him and a damaged script.
Fidel Castro
It’s not really specifics of an attempt on the former Cuban revolutionary leader, but rather the number. It is estimated that 634 assassination plots or attempts were made on Castro in his lifetime. State officials to underworld hitmen using a variety of schemes have been documented. Despite this, Fidel Castro died in Havana in 2016 at the age 90.
