WGC in beautiful winter conditions

A flukey gale blowing meant the scores were always going to be "modest" Picture: SUPPLIED.

Wednesday 9 Aug 9th in Stableford, beautiful sunny winter conditions prevailed.

A vicious, flukey gale blowing, the scores posted this day were always going to be “modest”.

The best of those “modest” results came from the clubs of Trevor-Porter, who posted a very steady 36 points.

This was good enough to earn Mr. Porter the B-Grade voucher, and as always—bragging rights.

The runner up to that fine score was my playing partner, Shaun-Nicholl, whose 33 points was his best effort for some time.

David-Wappett accumulated 34 hard-won points, to take home the A-Grade prize.

Dave’s two nines were steady, showing that the old adage “slow & steady”—does win the race.

The A-Grade R/up was none-other-than Paul-Kennedy. P.K. also accrued 33 points on the day.

With these scores being posted, the balls only reached 31.

There was a “full compliment” of NTP winners, they being as follows—Ray “Happy” Gilmore, (3rd), Max-Carvill, (5th), Peter-Fox, (9th), Clinton-Toohey, (12th) and Matthew-Maloney—who seems to be making the tough 15th his own private NTP hole.

Saturday 12 August in Stableford:

The only “feat” that would stop me giving the result details first, would be—-a hole-in-one—of course!

And, yes, loyal readers, we got one!

Rodney-Kempton scored his first-ever ace on the 9th hole at W.G.C.

My understanding is that this is our first competition ace for some months—so, hearty congratulations to you, Rod.

(Your grumpy brother would remind you that still puts you one behind him. Did he even congratulate you?!?)

On the day, Rod’s ace was not enough to give him the winning voucher—or even the runner up prize.

Those spots were taken out by—Glen-Patrick, (37 points) and Trevor-Porter, (35).

Interestingly, the ball rundown only reached 35 too!

The NTP winners were as follows—Andrew-McMath, (3rd), Peter-Fox, (5th), Rodney-Kempton—of course, (9th), P.K.,(12th) and to Steuart-Hawke, (15th).

* An interesting aside, folks—another player also nearly had a hole-in-one—on the 9th, too! Pretty “stiff” when you finish only 30 cm away—and walk away with nothing *
