Warburton Tree saga takes another turn

As Yarra Ranges Council crews removed some limbs off of the Warburton tree on Thursday 27 April, the continually developing plight of the Warburton Tree went through another twist.

Yarra Ranges Council have released an update stating that the split in the lower trunk was moving in Thursday’s high winds, and part of the tree’s root plate was also seen moving out of the ground.

As a result, Council believe that waiting for additional information is no longer an option due to the increased risk to the community.

To lower this risk, arborists will look to the recommendations from a recent independent report which examined ways to retain the tree trunk for habitat while reducing the risk to the community. This would mean an exclusion zone is required to ensure the remaining trunk can be retained for habitat without impacting community safety.

Council hoped more of the trunk could be retained, but believe this is the only option left and ‘understands this news will be disappointing for some.’
