On Monday 12 December, Yellingbo CFA and Hillcrest CFA brigades were called out to a Grass and scrub fire near Burr Road, Schoolhouse Road and Chruch Road, Woori Yallock.
Yellingbo CFA said in a Facebook post that fire got into the bush and it took a while to extinguish. The fire danger rating for the day was Moderate, which means if a fire takes hold it can be put out, however, the wind was very strong, which can make matters worse.
Hillcrest CFA confirmed crews were on the scene for just over an hour with about a quarter of an acre being burnt, along with the trunk of gum trees.
Both brigades urged residents to please follow the rules when burning off as if left unattended, the fire can escape into long grasses and dry bush, and even with rainfall, do not walk away from a burn-off.
