Yarra Ranges Council is creating a concept design for a new and improved McKenzie King Playspace in Millgrove.
Community consultation is open until Wednesday 30 November, with residents encouraged to provide their feedback on what they would like to see done to renew the space.
Due to its local-level playspace status, large infrastructure such as shelters, toilets and barbeques will not be provided as part of any upgrades.
The consultation survey only takes five minutes and asks questions about what residents would like to see suggestions for access, new activities and why playspaces and parks are important to them.
Yarra Ranges Council sought a contribution from the State Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund to deliver the McKenzie King Playspace Renewal upgrade back in July 2022, and $150,000 of the estimated $350,000 project cost was granted.
Currently, the McKenzie King Playspace consists of the main structure under a huge oak tree with a spiral slide, wave slide, big curved climber with circles, tunnel, climber, walkways, chain traverse, shop front, spiral ladder, curved ladder, abacus, monkey bars and flying fox.
There is also a smaller structure with a wave slide, shop front, rigid frame ladder, cubby seat, tic-tac-toe and tunnel and separately two springers, a see-saw, swings and shaded seats and tables with minimal grassy area.
The Millgrove Resident’s Action Group (MRAG) 2105 Community Action Plan highlighted goals to install or upgrade security plus toilets, park equipment, shelter, fencing and CCTV cameras at McKenzie King Park.
As of Thursday 24 November, 80 people had responded according to the Millgrove Residents Action Group, with hopes of reaching 100 by the time consultation closed.
