1. Ageing like fine wine

Patrick Dangerfield becomes the second player in AFL history to win their first premiership after playing more than 300 games. The first player was Shane Crawford in 2008.

2. Too old, too slow, too good

The Geelong Cats 2022 Premiership team are the oldest team to ever take the field in an AFL match and subsequently to ever win an AFL Grand Final. The Cats premiership team had an average age of 28 and more than 10 players who played on the day were old enough to be considered past their prime.

3. Winning big

Geelong’s 81-point victory over Sydney was the AFL’s sixth largest winning margin in AFL/VFL history. The biggest margin in history was Geelong’s 119-point win over Port Adelaide in 2007.
