A number of Upper Yarra streets are set to face special charges for the sealing of their roads under Yarra Ranges Council’s federally-funded Roads for Community initiative.
Alfred Street, John Street, Tainton Street and Railway Parade in Wandin North, Henry Street, Lester Street and Everard Grove in Woori Yallock and Henry Street in Yarra Junction were all discussed with the intent to levy special charges at the Yarra Ranges Council meeting on Tuesday 27 September.
All motions were passed unanimously.
For Alfred Street and John Street, 52 (72 per cent) of landowners responded to the survey. Of those landowners who responded to the survey: 47 (90 per cent) supported the proposed Special Charge Scheme and five (10 per cent) opposed the proposed Special Charge Scheme.
For Tainton Street and Railway Parade, 37 (76 per cent) of landowners responded to the survey. Of those landowners who responded to the survey: 30 (81 per cent) supported the proposed Special Charge Scheme, six (16 per cent) opposed the proposed Special Charge Scheme and one (three per cent) was undecided.
For Henry Street, Lester Street and Everard Grove in Woori Yallock, 35 (76 per cent) of landowners responded to the survey. Of those landowners who responded to the survey: 26 (74 per cent) supported the proposed Special Charge Scheme and nine (26 per cent) opposed the proposed Special Charge Scheme.
For Henry Street in Yarra Junction, 14 (58 per cent) of landowners responded to the survey. Of those landowners who responded to the survey: 11 (79 per cent) supported the proposed Special Charge Scheme, two (14 per cent) opposed the proposed Special Charge Scheme and one (seven per cent) was undecided.
Landowners with a demonstrated financial hardship may apply for assistance in accordance with Council’s Rate Recovery and Financial Hardship Policy and to arrange alternative payment options for the special charges.
