300 new building and construction sector apprenticeships and traineeships across Victoria will be available as part of the Victorian Government’s Big Build project by mid-2023.
Opportunities won’t be limited in scope either, with a need for a range from plumbing, electrical and engineering to civil construction, work health and safety, project management and more.
“Our Big Build is supporting thousands of workers, apprentices and trainees across the state – as projects continue to deliver the infrastructure Victorians want and need,” said Premier Daniel Andrews.
On the job training will be provided as part of the program, following an ‘earn and learn’ model where recruits will be earning an income from day one while gaining an accredited qualification through TAFE or other registered training organisations.
“This program is providing great opportunities for people from all walks of life to pick up the tools and enter a dynamic and highly-skilled industry,” said Minister for Employment Jaala Pulford.
People under 25, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, those from culturally diverse backgrounds, those facing long term unemployment and women are also strongly encouraged to apply for the roles, with women currently occupying just 11.6 per cent of the industry’s workforce and will be prioritised for 180 of the roles on offer.
“This program is making it easier for people to access the skills they need for their first job, a new job or a career change,” said Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney.
The two-year program is being delivered by Apprenticeships Victoria and the Apprenticeship Employment Network.
The initiative is supported by the $250 million Jobs Victoria Fund, creating 10,000 steady and secure jobs in sectors where they’re needed most.
