Victoria’s greyhound racing community worked in tandem to raise a collective total of $126,101 for the Good Friday Appeal in 2022.
Greyhound racing was conducted for the first time on Good Friday in 2022, with race meetings held at Healesville, Traralgon and Geelong.
Each club donated $50 every time a greyhound wearing the white number three rug won on the day, with Master Ogilvie (Healesville), Out Of Glory, Zachary, Shake And Treble (all Traralgon) and Emani Bale (Geelong) raising a combined $250, which was matched by Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV).
The three clubs also each held a Good Friday Appeal Cup to raise further awareness on the day.
Last month GRV raised over $43,000 in a single day by participating in 3AW’s Neil Mitchell’s Cruise for the Kids, while Victoria’s greyhound clubs also raised funds through various auctions and raffles both in the lead up to Good Friday and on the day.
GRV has contributed to the Good Friday Appeal for several decades, however the 2022 total is a single year record for the organisation.
