Frankie Walker has passed away at the age of 49 after a lengthy and brave battle with cancer.
From Launching Place, Mr Walker studied at Upper Yarra Secondary College, and grew up playing footy for Woori Yallock and started his senior career there before switching to Yarra Junction in his early twenties.
He was an avid Melbourne Demons supporter, getting to see them go all the way to a premiership lin 2021.
Mr Walker was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2018, before a tumour was found in his brain last year.
Yarra Junction Eagles Football Club released a tribute on Facebook for the half-forward flanker and on-baller.
“He was a member of the First Eighteen team for over eight years and was extremely popular with spectators and his team-mates. He was both tough and skilful, and he simply loved his football at Yarra Junction. He thrilled the crowds with his no-nonsense crash through playing style,” they said.
“His passion for the game was evident in the way he would enthusiastically and excitedly celebrate his goals. He was a great clubman, a loyal team-mate, and a genuine point-of-connection for all at the club. He was an entertainer and a storyteller who socialized happily with all. Frank was one of a kind. His humour, friendship, laughter, and bone crunching hip-and-shoulder contacts will long be talked about whenever his friends gather and remember the memorable era of Frankie Walker.”
Rest In Peace Frankie Walker.
