The Department of Transport has advised that the Maroondah Highway is closed between Healesville and Narbethong, through the Black Spur, due to a collision.
Several motorists took to social media to show what appeared to be a truck that had fallen off the edge of the road.
Motorists should avoid the area and use the Melba and Goulburn Valley highways through Yea and Alexandra.
This is a significant detour that could add more than an hour to the journey. Drivers should plan ahead to allow extra time.
Emergency services are on site. The road will re-open when it is deemed safe to do so.
