People wanting to improve their mental health can now access a free six-week course run by Eastern Health’s Community Health Counselling Team in Yarra Junction.

The Better Mental Health Program is suitable for people over 18 years and covers a range of issues including stress, anxiety, low mood and relationship issues.

The program is facilitated by an experienced psychologist and social worker and draws from evidence based practices such as acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, positive psychology and mindfulness.

Participants will be supported in developing practical skills and strategies to increase wellbeing and improve quality of life.

Senior counsellor Lorraine Marsh said, “From this program, participants can develop greater understanding of the way in which thoughts and feelings impact on their mental health and learn practical skills and strategies to support themselves more effectively.”

The program is free and runs each Wednesday from 9.30am to 12pm at the Upper Yarra Family Centre – 2444 Warburton Hwy, Yarra Junction. Term 3, 2019 begins on 31 July.
