A farewell to a town icon

Di Moore moving on after 40 years in Healesville.

Former Healesville and Yarra Ranges councillor Di Moore is leaving Healesville, but not without an opportunity for the community she served for many years to wish her well.
A community afternoon tea is being organised for Saturday, 12 August, at the Badger Creek Hall.
The afternoon tea from 2pm to 4.30pm will provide an opportunity for friends, former colleagues, her tennis, choir and church buddies and other community members to catch up before she heads off to Ballarat to be closer to her daughters and their families.
Di came to Healesville in 1977 and when Mountain Views newspaper started in 1979 she was an integral part of the team keeping the clerical side of the business in hand.
She was instrumental in the visionary group that established the Healesville Adult Day Care Centre that ran outreach programs at the Badger Creek Hall and, in turn, set the seeds for Rivendell.
Always an advocate, Di ran for Healesville Council in 1988 and represented the Badger Creek Ward until 1994 when commissioners took over as part of the ‘Great Amalgamation’.
When elections for the new Yarra Ranges Council took place in 1997, Di was elected to represent the much larger Ryrie Ward.
She retired in 2005 having represented the council on numerous boards including the Municipal Board of Victoria and Eastern Regional Libraries, later on the board of EACH, and served on many local community committees.
Friends and former colleagues, Jeanette McRae and Kath Gannaway say they want to make sure Di doesn’t slip away from her beloved Healesville without a well-deserved farewell.
No RSVP required, but be sure to take along a plate to share. Tea and coffee are provided.
