IF, like Mia Erickson from Healesville, you’ve grown a big pumpkin lately, Alowyn Gardens in Yarra Glen would like to hear from you!

The popular garden and nursery is holding a pumpkin competition on Sunday, 10 April with five classes – Giant Atlantic Pumpkin, Biggest Queensland Blue, Biggest Butternut, Biggest Zucchini and Most Unusual Pumpkin.

Alowyn’s Prue Van de Linde said they purchased seeds in October last year and put together growing packs for sale to the public. Seeds were also sold through the local Hoogies Hardware.

Mia, 9, has been nurturing her pumpkin from seed to flower to this beautiful, orange specimen since late last year, and can’t wait to take it along for the competition.

Ms Van de Linde said it was time for the pumpkins to come home.

“A large number of growing packs were purchased and we are now calling all pumpkin growers to enter their pumpkins (and zucchinis) in our competition,” she said.

There are great prizes to be won, and there will be food, stalls, a colouring competition, face-painting and the star attraction, the pumpkin show, on the day.

To register your pumpkin (or zucchini) visit www.alowyngardens.com.au or phone Alowyn Gardens on 97302400.
