Learn the tools – carpentry skills
LEARN basic tool skills and make you own planter box. In this workshop, you will learn the correct way to hold and use a saw and hammer, how to use a drill and change drill bits. After learning these basic carpentry tools, you will be taken through the steps of making your own planter box to take home. Saturday 11 April, 1pm to 3pm, at the Yarra Glen Living and Learning Centre, $10 includes materials. Bookings are essential; call 9730 2887.
Tai chi meditation walk
IN THIS class, participants can expect to learn good breathing, movement and relaxation practices, gain an introduction to tai chi and Chi Kung or, for those who have some experience, some very accessible extensions to the skills they already have. Weekly classes commence on 13 April through to 1 June, 7.30pm-9pm with the Yarra Glen Living and Learning Centre, $96. Bookings essential, call 9730 2887.
Kinglake Produce and Artisan market
The market features fresh produce, chutneys, jams, plants, hot and cold foods (sweet and savoury), wines, breads, crafts, knitted goods, clay ware, jumping castle, face painter, soaps, candles, jewellery, frames, dog treats and coats, great coffee and much more. The market certainly offers something for every member of the family – even the four-legged member. Held on the fourth Sunday of the month, they are open from 10am to 3pm, very reasonable hours for that Sunday drive. The next market is Sunday 26 April.
YouthArt at Linden Gate
ON SUNDAY 19 April, from 1pm-5pm, the launch of YouthArt will take place. The event is supporting the next generation of local artists with a visual art exhibition and launch afternoon. Seventeen young local artists will be exhibiting their work at Linden Gate gallery from 18 April to 25 May. The launch on 19 April promises to be great fun, with local musicians, Anthony Gerace, Marley Nebauer, Valerie Avenue and the Bean Project providing the project. Food and wine will be available.
Film night
YARRA Ranges Film Society will be holding a film night at The Arts Centre, Warburton, on Tuesday 14 April, 7.30pm. Also in Healesville, on Tuesday 21 April, 7.30pm at The Memo. The movie will be Rolf de Heer’s The King is Dead. 2012, MA.
Music night
A MUSIC night featuring local musicians and special guests will be held at St Mary’s Warburton (opposite tennis courts) on Friday 17 April, at 7.30pm. Entry by donation, supper provided.
Warburton Gallipoli Wall
THE unveiling of the Warburton Gallipoli Centenary Memorial Wall, located at Warburton RSL, will take place at 11am on Tuesday 21 April. Members of public invited to attend are asked to RSVP to warburton@hotmail.com.au or phone 5966 9874 as soon as possible.
Anzac Centenary display
MILITARY Historian Rob Wilson has put together a Centenary of Gallipoli display at the Healesville Library. The display opened on Saturday with memorabilia including photos and documents.
Avenue of Honour

Anzac tokens

Line dancing

Farmers’ Market
PERMACULTURE Yarra Valley group holds the Healesville Organic Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 8am-1pm in Coronation Park, River Street. Fresh organic produce, seedlings, honey, sourdough bread, coffee and tea, olive oil, preserves, soaps and wooden toys are available.
