A SPRING clean has reaped benefits at home and abroad for Warburton Primary School students, parents and staff.
On Tuesday 14 October, Living Fundraisers collected a small mountain of bags containing clothing and household items donated by the school community.
The Closet Cleanout fund-raiser is designed to help in three ways with the school receiving a modest payment for donated items which are then distributed to third-world countries where local people with an entrepreneurial spirit stock small businesses that provide their local communities with affordable recycled clothing. The school community really got behind this fund-raiser,” Parents and Friends Committee leader Theresa Reynolds said.
“It’s great to have a bit of a spring clean and the idea of helping people around the world as well as our own school is extra motivation.”
The school runs the Stephanie Alexander kitchen-garden program and is raising money for a new kitchen and dining space.
Principal Damian Marley said he was looking forward to the valuable learning opportunities the kitchen project is aiming to provide.
“Not only will the new learning space provide immediate benefits and skills, but the students will be forming healthy habits and a love of fresh produce from the garden that can last a lifetime,” he said.
