WARBURTON Artisan and Produce market have received a boost to funding, receiving over $2000 from local groups to help expand and grow the monthly event.
The Upper Yarra Community Enterprise and the Warburton and Yarra Junction Bendigo Bank branches donated $2500 to the market on Sunday 7 July.
The money will be used to expand the market, providing more space for local artists and producers to sell their art and their wares to the public.
Market co-ordinators Theresa Reynolds and Anita Juffermans were grateful to receive the donation.
“This enables us to grow the market, to promote it and enhance what’s already here,” Ms Reynolds said.
“We’re thinking of going outside in the warmer months if we get enough interest – to the Arts Centre Carpark.
“There’d have to be enough stalls, but we could get music to create that space.”
Ms Reynolds said the market, held in the Mechanics’ Hall at Upper Yarra Arts Centre, is useful for younger artists or producers who may not be able to travel to sell their items.
“It’s affordable and local, in a beautiful, historic setting,” she said.
Geoff Vickers from Upper Yarra Community Enterprise said the donation was all about supporting the Warburton community.
“Warburton has a very vibrant arts and produce community,” Mr Vickers said.
“If we can support them in that, we’re happy to do it.”
The Warburton Artisan and Produce Market is held on the first Sunday of each month from 11am-3pm.
