AS A podiatrist, Alice Linklater admits to being “totally biased” about the notion that it’s a wise move to look after feet from beginning to end.
From toddlers to teens to seniors, Alice, who has just opened Healesville Podiatry, said feet are the most basic form of transport and whether it’s preventative maintenance or identifying and working on a problem, seeing a podiatrist is one way to ensure healthy and happy feet.
“People service their cars quite regularly,” she said.
“But most people don’t think to service their own feet.”
With four years’ experience and an established clinic in Doncaster, Alice said she was keen to open another a bit further out in the eastern region. She provides a full range of podiatry services from nail reduction and hard-skin removal including corns and callouses to foot mobilisation and dry-needling to help relieve trigger points in the lower limbs.
Alice said there are some signs to look for in young children that may indicate potential problems.
“If a child is walking differently to other children, tripping or falling, if there is uneven shoe wear or if the child is complaining of pain they are definite signs to have their feet checked,” she said.
With older people, it is common to blame painful or sore feet on old age.
“That’s a cop-out,” Alice said.
“It is always good to get things investigated and while it may not always be possible to completely eradicate pain, we can often make things more comfortable.”
All Medicare and Department of Veteran’s Affairs visits are bulk-billed and home visits can also be arranged.
Alice said she is excited about starting a new business in Healesville and can’t wait to meet more members of the community.
“Feet are always attached to someone.”
Healesville Podiatry is located at 408 Maroondah Highway, Healesville, opposite Healesville Hospital.
