Brookers cause big upset

GEMBROOK pulled off the upset of the round beating fourth-placed Healesville comfortably.
Healesville led at the first change, 2.3 to 1.3 but managed only another two goals for the remainder of the game against Gembrook’s 13. Gembrook’s last term was outstanding, kicking just four goals but holding the Bloods to one behind.

ALEXANDRA was no match for a dominant Upwey, which had an unbelievable 13 separate goalkickers with Wade Porter the best with nine.
Upwey shared the ball brilliantly and hardly wasted an opportunity in front of goals, finishing with an accurate 32.12. A confidence game for the league leaders that should stand them in good stead come the finals.

IN A great four-quarter effort Monbulk had 13 separate goal kickers against Warburton, which had no answers to the Hawks and their multiple avenues to goal.

HALFWAY through Woori Yallock held a 20-point lead and looked to be getting on top of Mt Evelyn. But a great fightback in the third saw Woori’s lead whittled back to six points.
Mt Evelyn had every chance to upset Woori but wasted numerous opportunities and kicked seven behinds for the term. Woori made the most of its chances kicking 3.1 to win by 18 points in a hard-fought match.

WANDIN celebrated its second win of the season with a stirring come-from-behind win over Silvan. Silvan led for most of the day and went into the last quarter with a two-goal lead and probably should have been further ahead with seven more scoring shots than Wandin.
But Wandin’s spirit was outstanding in the last quarter kicking 5.5 to Silvan’s two goals.

KINGLAKE continued to impress as it accounted for a disappointing Belgave. Brent Gallichio continued his good form in front of goals with another nine to his tally. The Lakers have been finishing games full of run and this was no exception with nine goals in the final quarter – and an unbelievable 16 behinds.

OLINDA gave a workmanlike effort but Emerald did make it work for it with Olinda holding just a three-goal lead at half-time.
