McEWEN MP Fran Bailey has put her hand up for another term.
The holder of the most marginal federal seat in Australia, Ms Bailey announced last week that she had renominated for Liberal Party endorsement for the next election.
The election will take place between August 2010 and April 2011.
Announcing her decision, Ms Bailey said there had never been bigger challenges than those facing communities following the Black Saturday fires.
“Helping our residents and communities recover from those devastating fires and rebuild strong, vibrant communities is an important aspect of my ongoing role of working with our communities to get things done,” she said.
She said it was vital that better plans for fire prevention, detection and suppression were put in place to protect urban, rural and metropolitan fringe communities from the perils of bushfires.
Ms Bailey has represented McEwen from 1990 to 1993 and from 1996, as a minister of the Howard Government. She was returned in opposition by 31 votes at the 2007 election following a recount and challenge to the Federal Court.
