COUNCIL will place its Vision 2020 by Design, Consideration of Built Environment Framework, on public exhibition in a bid to ensure wider community consultation.
Council on 14 October rejected a recommendation to adopt Vision 2020 – May 2008 as a resource document in favour of placing it out to the public.
Councillors heard the Vision 2020 by Design was the outcome of an extensive process to prepare a framework for improving the quality of new development in the shire and would be an important resource for the shire.
Ms Tanner, a community member who spoke on the matter however told the council she did not consider it good process to adopt such an important document without wide comm-unity consultation.
“It’s not to say I don’t think there are very good elements in these documents,” she said.
“But to rush straight into planning scheme amendments and other elements may be the wrong approach which may also build resistance and slow it down.”
Cr Monika Keane proposed the alternative motion to put the document on exhibition with a further report to be provided to council on any submissions received.
“It is clear to me that this council has prided itself on consulting the community and this is another opportunity to do that,” she said.
The plan was to be placed on exhibition for one month.
