AUSTRALIA Post will remain at Healesville Walk until the full range of concerns voiced at an angry community meeting in Healesville last week are addressed.
McEwen MP Fran Bailey told the Mail last week talks with Australia Post officials after the meeting attended by 160 residents that Australia Post had given their commitment to retain the Walk post office service until lighting, security, disability access to private boxes, parking and the gradient of the laneway at the Main Street post office were addressed.
“Australia Post has given me their firm commitment that they will treat these community concerns as a matter of urgency,” Ms Bailey said.
In the meantime, a number of motions passed at the meeting will be acted on according to Robyn Johnston who is leading the fight against the closure of The Walk facility. One of those motions calls on the intervention of Australia Post General Manager Graeme Johns to intervene and defer the closure until a full investigation is done into the lack of community consultation on the matter.
The Shire of Healesville is currently working with Australia Post on a number of planning issues raised at the meeting.
