Maintenance works to the historic Dee Slip Bridge along the O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail will pause for the holiday period.
Construction will stop from Friday 19 December to Monday 12 January.
Since construction began in November, Parks Victoria has set up the work site and safety fencing, completed ground testing and timber inspections, while also installing temporary drainage and scaffolding around the bridge.
Most of the unsalvageable bridge decking and structure has been removed and workers have started drilling the new bridge supports, with some pile holes already completed.
But, while Parks Victoria originally planned to pack up the work site so people could pass safely around the bridge via the bypass track for the brief pause in construction, they have not been able to make the area safe enough to allow this.
Furthermore, doing so would delay the reopening date in autumn 2026.
As a result, there remains no access along the O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail between Dee Road to the west in Millgrove and Sussex Street to the east in Warburton.
Access remains for emergency services throughout construction.
East of Sussex Street, access along the O’Shannassy Aqueduct Trail will remain unaffected.
