Police join calls for information on stolen metal dog letterbox

Police have called upon the public for information on the brazen theft of a metal dog letterbox in Launching Place.

The theft took place on Dalry Road between 6pm on 25 October and 3pm 26 October.

The Star Mail spoke with the letterbox’s owner, Tony, who expressed frustration at the loss.

“Anyone who has had anything stolen from them, there’s a loss there. But this was unique, it was made for my birthday, and now my birthday present is gone.”

The dog was custom made with an old gas bottle and other various bits of metal and it was welded to the ground.

“No one could have just picked it up, but we never thought someone would come along with an angle grinder or saw and cut it off.”

Anyone with information about the theft is urged to contact Lilydale Police on 9739 2300.

Ref No: 250446994.

Tony received the $2000 dog letterbox from his partner as a birthday present five years ago, with the dog representing the multiple canines he owns.
