Warburton Bowls freshens up with a few friendlies

The 2025/2026 Pennant Season commences on 25 October with the club having two Weekend Pennant Teams, Division 1 and 5, playing on Saturdays and one Midweek Team, in Division 2, playing on Tuesdays. Training continues on Thursdays from 4.30pm.

Practice matches have commenced and a big thank you to Yarra Glen for hosting the Warburton One side on Saturday and to Yarra Junction for coming to the Warburton BC to play against the Warburton Two side. Valuable match practice was had by all clubs.

The Warburton One side played on grass at Yarra Glen with three out of four rinks getting up overall, led by Rod McKail’s rink who were the standout.

Warburton Two played in superb conditions and with great spirit, considering several players were unavailable.

Two young Burras’ members, Noah and Harry Lord played extremely well in their first ever game in the pennant format.

Also, another of the new players, Bruce Quig, performed well in his first hit out.

After the game all players enjoyed a BBQ with everyone enjoying great chatter, laughter and bowling stories.

Another of the Burras younger players, April Key, bowled in the Diamond Jack Singles Competition on the weekend in Moama.

She performed extremely well to reach the final in the Bronze Division to finish runner up.

Other weekend practice matches include playing Healesville away on Saturday 11 October and at home on Saturday 18 October against Upwey Tecoma.

The Midweek Side played Yarra Junction at home last Tuesday and will play away at Ferntree Gully on Tuesday 7 October.

A friendly environment and unexpectedly good weather made for a pleasant afternoon last Tuesday with the Eagles edging out the Burras on the day.

The Barefoot Bowls Jack Attack Triples Competition will commence on Wednesday 5 November from 6.45pm.

All positions are now filled with several new teams signing up for the 16 team competition.

Entries for the Summer Intra Club Competitions are now open.

Events include the Men’s and Ladies’ Singles Club Championships, Club Pairs Championship, President’s Handicap, George Saker 100 Up and Club Minor Singles Championship.

Any Beginners of all ages, who may be interested in taking up the game of bowls, are encouraged to come along to pennant training each Thursday or social bowls each Monday from 12pm.
