Yarra Ranges third in Biodiversity Blitz



The Yarra Ranges currently ranks third in the 2025 Biodiversity Blitz with 3625 recorded observations as of Monday 22 September.

It puts them behind second-placed Frankston City Council and table-toppers Mornington Peninsula Shire.

The Yarra Ranges has also registered 795 species.

Mornington Peninsula Shire lead the way with 4446 observations and 1136 species recorded.

Though the Yarra Ranges are on top when it comes to the number of registered observers taking part.

September is biodiversity month and other Melbourne based councils are taking part in the competition.

Every photo shared helps scientists and researchers while celebrating the incredible biodiversity in the Yarra Ranges community.

For the month of September, people are encouraged to download the iNaturalist app (or sign up online) where they can snap photos of local plants and animals.
