Planned burn season a success

Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) took advantage of a relatively stable autumn season and reduced bushfire risk around the Yarra Ranges.

FFMVic conducted 31 planned burns on 2571 hectares of public land across the state, which were crucial in safeguarding water supply infrastructure.

In a media release FFMVic highlighted one of two burns conducted in the Reefton and McMahon’s Creek areas in late March which would protect the Upper Yarra Reservoir.

Alongside other bushfire risk reduction works, this burn will help firefighters contain bushfires in the water catchment as quickly as possible.

While the burns were completed in three days, local crews continued to monitor the burn sites for signs of smoke and possible re-ignition.
