CFA units have successfully gained control of two back-to-back bushfires in the Upper Yarra.
The first fire started from an out of control burn off in Woori Yallock.
A CFA spokesperson said CFA responded to reports of a grass and scrub fire at around 1:25pm on Lusatia Park Road in Woori Yallock.
“Six CFA units from Yarra Junction, Hoddles Creek, Yellingbo, Hilcrest and Seville attended the scene, alongside Victoria Police.”
“Upon arrival, crews found an out of control burn off. Crews declared the scene under control by 2:15pm and remain on scene blacking out,” a CFA spokesperson said.
Hillcrest CFA said in a Facebook post that crews managed to stop the fire’s spread, but they’re expected to remain on scene for some time conducting blacking out operations.
“Today is unseasonably warm for May. It’s windy, and conditions are very dry,” the post read.
Up to six vehicles attended the Woori Yallock fire to ensure it didn’t spread any further.
VicEmergency issued an Advice – Bushfire – Threat Is Reduced message which stated the fire is under control and Lusatia Park Road is now open.
The second fire was caused by a grass fire at Macclesfield and Tschampions Road, Macclesfield and occurred at around 2pm.
The fire is now under control and emergency service crews will monitor the area until the fire is completely extinguished.
The Macclesfield fire saw four CFA vehicles attend to extinguish the blaze and the fire was considered under control by 2.27pm.
In the last 14 hours there has been five fires caused by out of control burn offs in the Yarra Ranges and the hills.
These include fires in Woori Yallock, Cockatoo, Macclesfied, Gruyere and Healesville.
