Public transport improvements for Upper Yarra Secondary College students are in the pipeline after State Liberal member for Eildon Cindy McLeish raised the matter in Parliament.
Ms McLeish spoke on the importance of extending the existing Martyrs 683 public transport service to better accommodate the transportation needs of students attending Upper Yarra Secondary College.
The Minister has since confirmed, “The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) has commenced engagement with Upper Yarra Secondary College with regards to meeting the future transport needs of their students.”
The Martyrs 683 bus route extends out to East Warburton but students living past Warburton only have one service to take to school, which arrives at 7.44am.
One main concern identified by the school is students living past Warburton couldn’t arrive early enough on days when school excursions would require them to.
“The options provided for changes to route 683 will be considered during ongoing discussions between DTP and Upper Yarra Secondary College.”
Ms McLeish said “This is a win for Upper Yarra Secondary College students and the surrounding community, that transport options getting to and from school could be improved sooner rather than later.”
“School Principal, Scott Tully, has worked hard lobbying for change and I commend his efforts.”
