A number of motorists in and around the Yarra Ranges, including a man driving in Healesville, will be charged after they were caught under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on the road over the weekend.
Burwood Highway, Ferntree Gully;
A 21-year old male probationary driver was detected driving whilst suspended.
His car was immediately impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1,042 and he will be charged on summons.
Scoresby Road, Bayswater;
A 50-year-old male driver was observed to cause the rear wheels of his vehicle to lose traction.
His vehicle registration was found to have expired over 12 months ago.
The man returned a positive result for illicit drugs.
He will be charged with all offences and faces a minimum 12-month loss of licence if convicted.
Mountain Highway, Sassafras;
At a Preliminary Breath Testing site, a 36-year-old male motorcycle rider with a false number plate affixed to his vehicle returned a positive result for illicit drugs.
He will be charged with both offences and faces a 12-month minimum loss of licence if convicted.
Sinclair Road, Bayswater;
45-year-old unlicenced male driver – positive result for illicit drugs.
Court for all matters, 12-month minimum licence loss on conviction.
Maroondah Highway, Healesville;
A 49-year-old male driver returned a positive Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) for alcohol.
He accompanied police and later returned an Evidentiary Breath Test (EBT) result of 0.079.
He was issued with a $577 penalty notice and his licence will be cancelled for 6-months.
At a Booze Bus site in Rowville Saturday night, over 600 motorists were checked for alcohol.
A 27-year-old female returned an EBT result of 0.099.
She was issued with a $577 penalty notice and her licence will be cancelled for 6-months.
A 42-year-old female probationary driver returned an EBT result of 0.032.
She was issued with a $481 penalty notice and her licence will be cancelled for 3-months.
All drivers that test positive for alcohol (penalty notice or charge) will have to have alcohol interlocks installed when re-licenced.
