For East Warburton residents, an important opportunity to ensure you are prepared in the event of a bushfire is coming up with a Communoity Fire Refuge Open Day at Millwarra Primary School’s East Warburton Campus.
Given the works getting underway on the Warburton Highway and the traffic concerns that would arise from a mass evacuation on Old Warburton Road, Warburton residents may also be interested in finding out a bit more about a potential refuge area.
The open day on Saturday 18 February will aim to better prepare locals for fire season and discuss how to plan ahead appropriately.
Attendees will learn:
• What a Community Fire Refuge (CFR) is
• When it may be opened
• How it operates
• How to develop your Bushfire Survival Plan
Refuges are purpose-built buildings designed to be a last resort option and provide shelter for residents to operate if their personal Bushfire Survival Plan has failed. In an emergency situation, there is no guarantee emergency personnel can be present so it is important for residents to be aware.
There will be guided tours and opportunities to learn about the local bushfire risk, ask CFA members questions, and prepare a personalised Bushfire Survival Plan.
Guided Tours: will be held at:
• 10am – 10:45am
• 12:15pm – 1pm
The Bushfire Preparedness Session is from:
• 11am – 12pm
