Holland scores a win

By Dennis Fuller
BEAUTIFUL conditions greeted the golfers at Emerald Golf Club for the first round of the three round Summer Cup.
Bouncer Holland (19) drank from that cup to sate his thirst for victory when his six-up was good enough to greet the judges.
When calculations were done he won on a countback from an exceedingly unlucky Leigh Morison (17).
Holland headed up the B Grade crowd.
In A Grade, no surprises occurred as the smooth-swinging Ross Martin (9) blitzed the rest again to finish at five up.
After calculations and re-calculations it was discovered that Con Whitlock (23) won C Grade on another countback from Jack Keenan (33).
Both players finished up square.
Wayne Degering continued his consistent scoring to be five up, Steve Town finished four up, Peter Clowes was two up while Dennis Fuller, Ken Hill and Dave Hunt all finished one up.
Peter Stevens was nearest the pin on the 4th, Ben Thompson on the 7th and 13th, Steve Town on the 12th and Dennis Fuller pocketed the pro pin cash on the 18th.
Holland was nearest the pin after his second shot on the 10th, and Thompson continued his hogging of the minor prizes when he was closest on the 17th.
The Wednesday battle in the realms of the Outrageously Fictional Golf (OFG) using OFG handicaps was won by Moss Fuller (19) when his 36 stableford points allowed him to be in and win the putt-off over Graeme Fergus (20) who also had 36.
Ken Hill continued his domination of the putting competitions when he showed his class on the 19th.
Next Saturday is the second round of the Summer Cup and it will be interesting to see if the current leaders of the mob manage to hold their swings together to stay in the lead.
