Investigations expanded in Seville East

VicRoads has extended their investigation into the Warburton Highway in Seville East to include other surrounding roads.

A VicRoads spokesperson told the Mail that that the scope of their investigation of the Warburton Highway had been expanded from Peters Road to Douthie Road to include the section from Douthie Road to Old Warburton Highway.

“The safety of road users is our highest priority and that’s why we’re working to identify potential safety improvements for this section of Warburton Highway,” a Department of Transport spokesperson said.

“Over the past few months, we’ve been gathering information on traffic movements and investigating a range of potential options so we can plan how to improve safety along Warburton Highway between Douthie Road and Old Warburton Highway.”

In August, the Mail reported that VicRoads were working on design options to improve safety along the Warburton highway, particularly around the Sunnyside Road intersection.

VicRoads staff were witnessed arriving at the location on the corner of Peters and Bridgewater roads, but their vehicles had turned in from Douthie Road to avoid having to make a right hand turn into Peters Road.

Many Seville East residents make the same choice believing the right hand turn into Douthie Road is the safer option to lessen the chance of being involved in a rear-end collision.

Members of the Seville East Traffic Safety Group have spent months advocating for the highway to be upgraded to have designated turning lanes at Douthie, Sunnyside and Stuart Roads, as well as an island protected turning lane at Peters Road, as previously reported by the Mail.
