TAKE 50 to 70 local teenagers, a few dedicated adults, an original script, magical costumes, a stage, music, lights, and six months of very hard work.
Mix well and give lots of credit to J.M. Barrie who invented Peter Pan way before Walt Disney was ever heard of, and you have Healesville High School’s 2008 production.
Peter Pan is forever young but, reinvented by these youthful performers, he literally leaps off the stage.
The pirates are deliciously evil.
Led by their wicked Captain, who is played on alternate nights by Zac Gardner and Steven Scarborough, and bossed around by teacher, Brendan Dwyer, disguised as the notorious Mr Smee, Ethan, Roman, and Jay are an all-singing all-dancing crew of ruffians.
Finally, of course, they meet defeat at the hands of an alliance of Lost Boys, Indians and Fairies with Peter Pan (Aaron Wilkes and Michael Mathews) at their head.
Wendy (Amie Watson and Kate D’Arcy), Tiger Lily (Jemima Bannick and Monique Lester) and Tinkerbell (Jemma Iacano) provide Peter with powerful feminine backup in the final battle, and the seas that surround Never Never Land abound with melodious mermaids and graceful water nymphs.
Behind all lurks the vengeful crocodile waiting his opportunity to get just one more bite at Captain Hook.
Peter Pan is playing at the Healesville Memorial Hall at 7.30pm Friday 9 August and Saturday 10 August. Tickets are available now at the High School Office on 5962 4088.
