Fuelled for thought

By KATH GANNAWAY

THE smells wafting up the corridors of Upper Yarra Secondary College often prove too tempting for early staffers.
It’s not just the students who need a good brekky, and tasty toasties are a big hit.
“Brekky @ the Buses” co-ordinated by Chaplaincy and sponsored by the Bendigo Bank, is a Tuesday morning ritual.
Using three machines, being careful not to blow any fuses, a dedicated team makes over 160 toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches.
They are committed to making sure tummies are full and students are greeted with a friendly smile.
Having had her granddaughter just finish Year 12 at Upper Yarra, the team co-ordinator Judy Morris said she knew only too well how many teenagers left home in the mornings with only minutes to spare, often not having the breakfast they needed for a good start to the day.
By providing toasties, they hope that UYSC students will be more attentive in school and on other days may be encouraged to eat well.
