Warburton Bowls Club gears up for 2025/26 season

The 2025/26 Pennant Season commences on Saturday 25 October with the Warburton One Division Two side playing Ferntree Gully One away and the Warburton Two Division Five side playing Croydon Four away.

The division two midweek side will play their first game against Ferntree Gully One away on Tuesday 28 October.

Training continues Thursdays from 4.30pm.

It has been great to see several new players joining the club and willing to play pennant.

Practice matches have continued and a big thank you to Healesville for hosting both the Warburton One and Two sides on the weekend.

Valuable match practice was had by both clubs as games were played with great spirit.

Weekend practice matches will conclude on Saturday 18 October against Upwey Tecoma at home.

Warburton’s Midweek side concluded their pre-pennant practice games last Tuesday with a visit to the notoriously tricky Ferntree Gully green.

A windy day and the slick surface posed problems for both sides, but the competition was keen and close all day.

The home side won narrowly, but it was an encouraging performance from the Burras after last week’s disappointing game.

Recently one of the Burras’ younger players, April Key, bowled in the Diamond Jack Singles Competition in Moama.

She performed extremely well to reach the final in the Bronze Division to finish runner up.

The popular bingo nights continued last Wednesday and will continue for the next two Wednesdays in October from 6.30pm with many fun and enjoyable bingo games, including Music Bingo.

The Club will be celebrating Get Online Week with a free night on 22 October.

The Barefoot Bowls Jack Attack Triples Competition will commence on Wednesday 5 November from 6.45pm.

The club welcomes all the new teams including Hit the Jack, Stirling Effort, Lawn Rangers, Bowl Movement, T.B.C, Bowled and the Beautiful and the return of the Sheep Assist team.

Entries for the Summer Intra Club Competitions are now open.

Events include the Men’s and Ladies’ Singles Club Championships, Club Pairs Championship, President’s Handicap, George Saker 100 Up and Club Minor Singles Championship.

Any beginners of all ages, who may be interested in taking up the game of bowls, are encouraged to come along to pennant training each Thursday or social bowls each Monday from 12 midday.

Free coaching is available – for more information give the club a call on (03) 5966 2391.
