At the halfway point of the all-new 48-hour Chrono stage in the Dakar Rally, the news is that Three Bridges’ Daniel Sanders has continued his resurgence within the top 10.
While there’s no update on the official rankings just yet, with riders camping out in the desert before another stage is to be completed today, Sanders is among a number of riders to have benefited from the misfortune of another.
Chilean Pablo Quintanilla ran out of fuel 10km before the refuelling point and is expected to lose lots of ground in the competition with the quartet of Sanders, fellow Red Bull rider and Australian Toby Price and the Benavides brothers, Kevin and Luciano, surging ahead.
Botswanan Ross Branch and the Honda trio of Chilean Jose Ignacio Cornejo Florimo, American Rickey Brabec and Frenchman Adrien Van Beveren remain the leading pack.
According to Sanders’ Facebook page, he finished in fourth position before camping out the night ahead of the dune-heavy ‘Empty Quarter’ stage.
