On Monday, traditional rivals Wandin and Woori Yallock will battle it out in their first Anzac Day clash taking place at the Wandin North Recreation Reserve starting at 2.30pm.

In order to mark and demonstrate respect for all our service men and women, there will be an Anzac Day service conducted before the game by the Lilydale RSL and local MP Bridget Vallence.

The Wandin Football Club will also don a special limited edition guernsey, as a mark of respect for our Anzac heroes. The traditional Wandin strip has been altered to include red poppies to replace the red hoop and silhouettes of diggers are depicted along the bottom the jumper.

The Wandin Anzac guernsey has been proudly sponsored by the Rotary Club of Wandin.

The Rotary Club of Wandin has been supporting its local community for the past 38 years and is proud to be associated with this wonderful initiative.

Wandin Rotary President Ben Vallence said the club is thrilled to support the local footy club while marking one of the most significant days on the calendar.

“As our community emerges from two years of lockdowns and restrictions, we are looking for new ways of bringing our community together and acknowledging our Anzac legends,” Mr Vallence said.

Mr Vallence encouraged locals to head down to the game to honour our veterans.

“We want as many people as possible to come to the game at Wandin on Monday to pay tribute to the men and women who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to enjoy a great game of footy between two traditional Yarra Valley rivals,” he said.

“This is just a great example of community supporting community to make things possible.”
