Warburton Bowls Club results

A challenging week of bowls for the Burras leaves the Midweek side as the only team to reach the finals this season.

The Warburton BC are extremely proud of our Club Champion Rayna Zunneberg’s selection in the Eastern Ranges Bowls Region Women’s Representative Team for the Regional Championships in Moama during April. All the very best, Rayna!

The weekend Warburton 1 side commenced their final doubleheader playing Bundoora RSL 2 away. The home side was far too consistent across most rinks winning 90 shots to 64.

Rink scores were as follows: A. Donohue 23/ 14; S. Lord 12/ 23; P. Caneva 14/ 25 and C. Neale 15/ 28.

They played the top side Yarra Glen 1 away on Sunday in fine conditions. In a spirited performance, the Burras fought the game out well before going down 70 shots to 86.

Rink scores were as follows: A. Donohue 13/ 26; S. Lord 19/ 19; C. Neale 17/ 25 and P. Caneva 21/ 16.

Next weekend sees them playing Ivanhoe 1 away in their final game for the season.

The Warburton 2 side played Ferntree Gully 3 away in their final quest to reach the finals.

However, they failed to continue their recent improved form going down 67 shots to 90 on a very challenging fast green.

Rink scores were S. Freestone 17/ 20; G. Lewis 11/ 26; G. Wynd 15/ 28 and S. Darwall 24/ 16.

Despite the loss and missing out on the finals, the Club is very proud of the improvement displayed throughout the season, particularly from all the beginning players. The future is very promising.

The mid-week Warburton 1 side, played Mooroolbark 2 away in superb bowling conditions.

A solid overall performance saw the Burras win by 13 shots, 70 to 57.

Rink scores were S. Lord 20/ 21; S. Lee- Tet 26/ 14 and G. Walsh 24/ 22. They play top side Monbulk 1 this week at home in the final round before the finals.

The Wednesday Night Barefoot Bowls Triples Competition continued last Wednesday in humid conditions. All games continue to be played with great enthusiasm.

One of the beginning bowlers, Maxine Burke (Wessie Wonders), started the evening well by receiving the prize for the first player to touch the jack.

Match results were as follows Moonshiners 18 d Bolters 11; Pensioners 35 d Bowls to the Walls 3; Can’t Remember 31 d Sheep Assist 3; G Force 21 d Wessie Wonders 8; Burra Boys 15 d Giddy Gout 9 and Thomos 15 d Nutters 7 .

New players, including beginners and experienced, are always welcome to join our small but progressive club. Social Bowls continues to be played every Monday from 12 midday. All welcome!
